Screen-print with moth-scale flocking, 6 X 12,” 1999
When the moth population cycle was booming, many ‘millers’ were finding their ways into my house. While removing laundry from the washer I discovered moths with clear wings free of scales. To procure the flocking material I captured hundreds of moths and washed them with a small amount of detergent. This solution was filtered to remove the moth bodies and allowed to settle. The resulting sediment was dried into a fluffy powder of scales that could be sprinkled over a freshly screen-printed glue image on black paper.
